Delete everything you make, it isn't good enough. Deep down you know this but labour under an illusion that someone is going to say Wow! that's the greatest music I've ever heard. It isn't. And they won't. Even your loved ones are only being polite when they say they like it and inside they are just wishing you shut up and go away. Other musicians wil praise you from time to time or give you critical comment because they are also labouring under the same illusions.

This is the way of the modern producer.

Sorry to be painting in such broad strokes, I could be more specific such as saying "boost an 808 snare at 97.8 Hz by 6.23db but I'd be giving my secrets away. That was just an example, the frequency I gave is wrong, so don't go trying that. Anyway, I didn't say how much "snappy" to add to the snare.

Hahahaha, wow I said exactly that sentence once after spending hours of a psychedelic voyage looking at VJ visuals, then going outside and seeing the sky and grass and trees and everything. We were freaking out at how "high resolution" everything is!

I was thinking of posting something similar, like "whiteboard tips", short and simple production techniques you could write on a whiteboard on the wall to reference at all times.

But then I realized it would be near to impossible to keep this forum on a serious note, starting right out the gate with "Buy a Mac".

Also, the #1 production tip would defeat the thread.

Production Tip #1 : Get off the forum and produce some music!!

Followed by the next less technical tip.

Production Tip #2: Quit your inspiration sucking day job where you think about working on music all day but when you get home you're too burnt and no longer in the mood.
