using the korg microkontrol pads to trigger samples in live

i've tried googling this, and searching on the forum...but can't find the info i need

i want to use the pads to trigger samples live, say in drumrack or impulse, but when i click midi to assign the pad, it won't let me select the play symbol. seems i can assign anything else but what i need...

one of the main reasons i got this controller is to use the pads to trigger samples in real time while recording, say hi hats or whatever, but i still can't figure it out!

any help would be much appreciated

(oh and if this is a stupid question and it's really obvious...sorry!)

Hi,

you don't need to asign the pads to the slots of drum rack or impulse via the midi asign function.

Did you activate "track" for MIDI input of your micro control in the options MIDI tab? If you did so, you should be able to trigger notes from instruments and even the slots of impulse and drum rack.

The only thing you have to look for then is that your 16 pads trigger the right notes: The slots in impulse start from C3 on a keyboard, so you may have to configure your pads to play these notes.

I'm not sure if this will help you.

C.

Hi Alex,

You need the Korg editor for the microKontrol.... Either that or the manual, this will show you how to reconfigure the pads to play the notes required by the Drum Rack, i prefer doing it manually with the hardware rather than the software even though it's a bit longwinded....

Cheers

You don't need software at all to change the MicroKontrol parameters.

Hit the shift button SETTTING, should be above the octave buttons. Then hit the Pad that says "Pad". Top row. Now, you should figure out how to change those pads to send out Note information. They should also be momentary switches. Don't forget to Save your scene settings. By hitting the SCENE shift button, then save, then choose a save slot and enter. Don't have the MK on me, but I hope you get what I'm saying. Play around with it.

You can use the same method to change encoder settings, the sliders, pedal, x/y stick, etc.

Have fun.

I could never get the Editor Software to sync with my MK, so yeah. It's not to difficult, just a little laborious. But so is a lot of this gadget wizardry.
