I am looking for an excuse to allocate all of my music creation into ableton. I DJ in it, I do all of my sequencing in there, if I need to chop a sample or remix... I do it all in Live. But the one thing I dont do in Live is use its instruments. I have a Roland Fantom G6 for that and it's a BEAST! The AC sound patches sound so real and the synths are out of this world. There are so few patches where I'd say, why the hell did they even bother putting that in there?
Live's instruments on the otherhand, IMHO, sucks badly compared to the fantom. I went through so many instrument racks using analog, electric, collision, etc and I swear I wanted to believe I could make a trade in for Live 8 Suite but the sounds are just that bad. Even the grand piano is weak. On the other, the orchestral add on pack sounds really good... but theres no leads, pads, VOX, limited e. piano...

So what are the VERY VERY best soft synths out there where the patches are close to production ready? I don't want to spend any time tweaking. I'm talking Motif XS/Fantom quality.

BTW I make hip hop beats so I'm looking for rich pianos, brass, strings and VOXs but also hard crunk synth leads and dist. guitars.


I'll try anything. I love the fantom as a sound module but the workflow is long and annoying in every aspect. Plus I don't even use the a tenth of the features...

Okay did more research and it looks like Kontakt is largely popular and the song demos are awesome. Gotta DL the demo for sure. Maybe Komplete but I really don't need 7000 sounds...
Anyone use these?

I also see that some companies like loopmasters and primeloops make Live Packs. Anyone out there use them? Overall great quality?

you cannot go wrong with Komplete, the price difference between buying 1 item or the price of the entire komplete pack makes it a no-brainer, if you're going to buy native instruments, either get komplete or dont buy from NI, their plugins are all awesome, but the cost of just one vs buying komplete makes buying just one kind of a joke or at least a bad idea.

kontakt and Reaktor alone are worth the $550 for komplete.

You're right. I just downloaded the demo for absynth, kontakt and battery and all are really great. Well worth just getting the bundle. Thank goodness for kontakt being multi timbral because I only have Live Intro.
Now one thing I can't do with this demo is save. And coming from a Fantom where an individual studio set (mixer, patch, and effects settings) is saved all on one file, I was wondering how this is done on VSTs and plugins with ableton. Do I have to make a folder for each beat that I make and save the individual VST instrument settings or can I save my Live session and when I reload the session the VST patches, midi channel settings, and effects are all reloaded as I left them?
