i bought an m-audio audiophile usb interface today. i've hooked up a shure sm57 mike and when i record , the volume turns out very, very low. as i look at the track as i'm recording, the display is just moving along with no audio lines. when it's done and i zoom way in, there's only one line that barely oscilates above the center. what am i doing wrong! the soudn quality is pretty good, it's just barely there.

additionally, i'm running 1.5.3, the free trial version. in the arranger, i can't seem to put anything on the master track. are you supposed to be able to?

There is no preamp in that sound card. You need there to be a microphone pre amp to take the sound from very quite to a functional volume. I am sorry to say that as far as I understand that soundcard it will not work directly with that microphone. You would need sumpthing like the M audio 410. I am sorry if that is bad news. good luck at getting that sorted.
