sorry to post this in both the bugs and general section, but i really need help soon and it's probably a simple answer.

i bought an m-audio audiophile usb interface today. i've hooked up a shure sm57 mike and when i record , the volume turns out very, very low. as i look at the track as i'm recording, the display is just moving along with no audio lines. when it's done and i zoom way in, there's only one line that barely oscilates above the center. what am i doing wrong! the sound quality is pretty good, but it's just barely there.

additionally, i'm running 1.5.3, the free trial version. in the arranger, i can't seem to put anything on the master track. are you supposed to be able to?

Hi,

Did you adjust the gain on the mic-preamplifiers? There's really no gain control within Live - it's all up to your interface...

Good luck,
Mikael

Where did you find the 1.5.3 ?? Its stoneage. But great.

Reasons for low level:
-Phantom feed mic? (dont know about the Shure)
-Some control panel input volume for the audiophile
-Input level in Live (bus tab low right)

About fx on the master track:
If there isnt any restriction on this because its the trial version you should be able to drop fx on the master track. (Not wav-clips, though)

Just for a starter
respond to this

the 1.5.3 came with my audiophile usb

what's a phantom feed mic?
there's no volume input in the audiophile control panel.
the live input level appears to be near the top, though i can't seem to figure out how to change it.

the audiophile doesn't have mic preamps built into it.

I've tried adjusting the outpul level on the audiophile, but it doesn't help. recently whenever i loaded live my computer would reboot, so i reinstalled the audiophile driver and it's not rebooting, but audio is still low.

why can't you drop wave clips onto the master track? i guess i'm misunderstanding what the master track is.

No wonder your not getting any level...

Invest in a cheap one:
