Making beats with a drumpad with the drum rack

I'm using a korg nano pad with a copy of ableton 7.

I just downloaded some 909 samples as wav files but when I try to play them using the drum rack each sample only plays while I'm holding down the button on the pad. I can't figure out how to play each full sample by just tapping the button rather than holding onto it which makes little sense when I'm trying to construct a live set from various samples.

Is this a problem with the hardware or am I missing something obvious?

check out the start of each sample.there may be some silent run in time, which prevents it from sounding immediately.

The samples are all clips that start with the sound, it's just a matter of playing the entire sound without holding down the pad that it's assigned to for however long the clip lasts. The goal is to play it like a drumset only on a pad.

Adjust the attack and release of the sample.

double check the settings on the pad also, could just be in the wrong mode, ditto the drum rack.

a longer release time is what you need, thats all.

Well that worked, I was right to suspect that I missed the obvious, but I guess that's why god gave us the internet
