so i cant add any more ram as xp 32bit has a max ram limit, so do i get xp 64bit or just go for windows 7 64bit ? anyone using it with live at the moment ?

or should i stick with whats worked on my system for the past 4-5 years ?

First you need to check if there are 64bit-drivers for your audiohardware available.

If yes, then go for W7 64bits or stick to your old system until there are drivers for w7 64bits available.

No problems here, just make sure all your hardware is supported, that means things like soundcard and midi interface as well as your pc hardware.
If your system is 4 or 5 years old are you sure it can run a 64 bit os?
Also bear in mind that because Live is a 32 bit app it is still limited to how much ram it can use.

glad i asked the question, well according to my motherboard it can support 64bit,
im using a m-audio audiophile soundcard, thats pretty much all of ext hardware, everything else is software based,

i will double check with my motherboard and if it doesnt support it 32bit windows 7 might be the way to go,

theres a thing on microsoft site that will test your comp and let you know whats up.

I made the switch last month and it is a huge improvement over XP. IMO.

very cool, i dont have my music pc online, i like to keep it totally clean and avoid virus's and any other none music related programmes,

i added 2 gig of ram to my xp system before i thought of upgrading and xp never recongnised the extra ram, so pointless havin it in there, plus i dont see the point in getting xp 64bit

may as well just grab windows 7 64bit and give myself a little room for future ram upgrades

hmmm im a little confused some websites say my motherboard is compatable with windows 7
some say no

my board is Intel DG965WH motherboard

what does intels site say?

Windows 7 still maxes out at about 3.83GB. So unless you buy a new system with over 4GB of ram, there is no point in getting 64 bit. Live 8 maxes out at 4GB anyways since it is still 32 bit. Now if you use a software sampler like emulator x3 64 bit you can use a lot of ram ( i am running 9GB) and do a lot of sound mangling. Sonar is 64 bit so you should notice the difference there.

Adobe CS4 64 bit apps are much more fluid and have less load times for startup and just work much better than Cs3 32bit apps.

It can't hurt you to get Windows 64 bit. My guess is Live 9 will be 64 bit which would allow much greater RAM than the current 4GB limit.
No problems running 32 bit programs on 64 bit OS.

I'd suggest you switch to 64 bit win 7 instead. It's what's next anyway. Plenty of ram and it's great especially with a core i7! I'm not looking back.

I only use 32 bits hosts and so far only 1 32 bit plugin didn't work. I used jbridge to make it work and it runs perfect. It's basically a wrapper to use 32 bit plugins in 64 hosts (it does more) butin my case, it resolved some compatibility problems for me.
