Ableton Forum

I use ableton to write, loop, and trigger events but sometimes I prefer to pick up a piece of gear and start playing around. I love synthesizers but I am not a keyboard player so sometimes I feel its not the best investment for me also I can use a VST for that. What I am looking for is the best noise maker - synth/drum/sampler all-in-one outside of ableton for someone who like me wants to add some electronic experiments to their guitar based set-up. I have cash for one new toy.

Any thoughts or opinions for anybody who can relate to my situation? I know this is a common topic but I thought maybe some guitarist / experimenter out there might have some ideas.

There are some cool apps for the iPod, like Bebot and Noise.Io, but I'd say go for a Kaossilator. I'm really just using those apps because I don't have a Kaossilator and was looking for something to use on stage that would emulate it to a certain degree.

I feel like these app programs are going to explode. Especially with the tablet. Not sure how they stack next to hardware base devices but I am impressed.

Bebot is probably my favourite. Has some fat sounds (well, 4 of them) and I can see that being the most useful for some noise making, it's positively awesome for creating uplifters and risers. Noise.io theoretically has everything going for it, but it's a bit boring sonically in my opinion. iSyn is also pretty cool, but its not multi-timbral (afaik) and the small keyboard is pretty frustrating (my biggest gripe with most synth apps.) It's fun though, don't get me wrong and the accelarometer (sp?) function of the iPod can also achieve some nifty effects. Definitely interested in what the iPad's apps will pull off though. One of the only reasons I'd actually get one.
