Ableton Forum

So this problem is semi-recent, I dont know why it started or how. No settings have been changed to cause this effect. But when I drag a new track from itunes (only program I use to add files to ableton) and after it analyzes the song it gives the song a downgraded BPM by HALF. Ex. Deadmau5 - jaded is at 128, but it gave it a 64BPM throughout, it does this for many tracks as well. Yes, I can fix this by going to the first marker and saying warp 128 from here but it should know be default the correct BPM. any suggestions to fix this? thanks.

That's just warping. Sometimes it's perfect. Sometimes you have to tweak it.

This is a common occurrence with warping - so much so that there are *2 and /2 buttons in the Clip View, specifically so that this can be fixed quickly.

Dennis, I have a theory that I may have completely imagined that you can confirm or deny:

For me, the frequency of misjudging the tempo by 1/2 seems increased the closer the global tempo is to 1/2 of the actual tempo. In other words, when global tempo = 125, A 128bpm track brought in for the first time is less likely to be read as 64 as is would be if the global tempo = 70 at the time it's brought in and analyzed.

(I swear this happens and I'm not making it up, no matter what Dennis answers)

Dennis, I have a theory that I may have completely imagined that you can confirm or deny:

For me, the frequency of misjudging the tempo by 1/2 seems increased the closer the global tempo is to 1/2 of the actual tempo. In other words, when global tempo = 125, A 128bpm track brought in for the first time is less likely to be read as 64 as is would be if the global tempo = 70 at the time it's brought in and analyzed.

I can neither confirm nor deny, but I'll look into it. In theory, the tempo misjudging should have more to do with the intensity of transients on non-strong beats.

this might be it oddly enough. Jaded for example was right when I opened up ableton the global was set at 70BPM without remembering to change it. at the time I didnt think the analysis would have an effect of what it thought the BPM's were depending on the global BPM. But, once I changed the global bpm to 128 it got all songs after that correctly. Maybe it was a coincidence maybe not.

I'm thinking it only happens when the Analysis concludes it could go either way (ie Live is on the fence..) and in this case it references the global tempo for a clue..
