So I'm running 8.1.1 Suite in Win 7 32. I'm using an E-MU 0404 USB interface. I'm running 4 tracks with loops on each and virtual metronome patch for each track, thats it, no other effects. I'm running another track with is armed to record - recording my drummer and myself via a condenser mic. The other 4 tracks I use with my guitar to loop, the loops go out of both the 0404 outs to my amps. So I'm recording us, while we play live...

Often, the Screen will freeze - the loops will continue playing but the screen will freeze, it will catch up after a few seconds, some times longer. I've been getting the "A serious error has occurred and Ableton must close" message, resulting in Ableton having to close. I'm wondering if this is a program issues? Or maybe I'm doing too much for my comp?

I'm using a relatively new Gateway NV5927u with an Intel i5 processor, 4gb ram - only 2.8 usable with Win 7 32.

I'm wondering if my constant "arming" and "unarming" of the 4 looper tracks is causing problems? - I right clicked the arm button on track 5 to select the "exclusive" option or whatever - so that will stay armed, and record, while I arm and un arm other tracks to use the different loopers. I don't need to record the audio of the loopers, they're being picked up by the condenser. Is there a way to select which track I want to use without having to arm it and thus, not record it, if that will put less strain on the system.

4GB and only 2.8 usable? Sure? Not 3.4 - 3.6? That's weird.

some suggestions:

* change Windows 7's AERO to "Classic"
* Make sure you have the most current Video driver for your Garphics Card.
* Try ASIO4ALL instead of the hardware vendor's original driver.
* Delete Live's "preferences.cfg" file and restart Live.

It's 2.8 available cause I'm using 32 bit, not 64 - I'm gonna switch back to 64.

I read that ASIO4ALL isn't any better than the E-MU 0404's ASIO driver...

where is the ".cfg" file located?

Upgrade to 8.1.3. I bet your problems disappear.

So I own the same audio usb card.

Asio4All is not better than the asio driver for the emu.
But you need Asio>> em-u driver, not mme/dx from default windows set.

Honestly I bought a firewire behringer fca 202 with only audio, for playing outside.
The emu is only aimed for midi recording, after I fill a project up, it's bad performance, asio or not.


Firewire if you want a valuable and longtime card.
and go back to windows XP if you want ubber stability

I know. I'm using the E-mu driver. My computer doesn't have Firewire and no PCICMA slot.

I got the E-MU cause a lot of people spoke highly of it - good preamps. If the 0404 is only aimed at recording Midi, why have to analog/xlr Ins with Phantom power?
