Is ASIO4All necessary?

Right now im running a presonus firebox and in Live it is recognized as preonus firbox ASIOdriver. I have ASIO4all installed and have had it for a while now. My question is, is it necessary and does it affect performance in any way? Im and upgrading to a Profire 2626 this week and i need to have the rig running as optimal as it can. Should i uninstall ASIO before installing the profires drivers?

Setup:
HP pavillion DV6700
2ghz 3gbRAM
Vista 32x sp1

Live 7.0.18

Presonus firebox running at 12ms latency (this is a problem the Abe's are working on but...)

Soon to have profire 2626.

Any other suggestions as gfar as optimizations for getting the profire 2626 to work at peak performance with the rig?

I'm no expert on this, but I use ASIO4ALL only for my laptop's internal soundcard, which lacks ASIO drivers. From what I understand, you generally won't do better than the manufacturer's drivers. No ASIO4ALL necessary.

I don't think it hurts to have it installed on the side, though. Perhaps someone can correct me here.

I don't understand why people feel they HAVE to use ASIO4ALL drivers when their soundcard has native ASIO drivers. Use your soundcard drivers.

hmm, well i just dont know what to do. ive had asio on my laptop since before i even got my firebox and never thought to raise the question as to whether or not i need it. live has been using the firebox's drivers along with asio sinvce then and now that ive taken the plunge it a 2626 im skeptical as to if i need it or not and how it may affect performance.

well, for one, my interface, with live 7, using my manufacturer drivers, made my apc40 perform incorrectly.

with asio4all, it fixed that problem, as well as giving me LOWER latency than with the original drivers.

that on top of that, it frees up my original drivers for use in other programs. I have have multiple programs using the same interface at the same time.

i find it a very useful driver swap and recommend it for anyone running on non-pro interfaces, such as your sigmatels and realteks.

This is a good point - whatever works best should be used :)
