Really, just go in t'studio turn on, lay down some loops, jam about, record an arrangement and tracks fall out. lovely.

I did this today. I wonder how many tracks I'll churn out over the four day weekend?

Anyway, s'fun whatevah,

The Frequency of Clay

Title inspired by some thread here at abes...can't remember what it was about now...

The key is it's enabled me to go back to using session view as a compostioinal tool. I used to use Live like that when I first started with it then returned to the linear arrangement view for compostion using session only for live play.

Now though, the apoc has freed me to use session view as a compostional tool, using the footpedal to trigger loop record and oplay, everything is so quick. I love it!

:D

Agreed, it's one of my favorite purchases the last couple years. They did a really good job with the controls and feel on it.

+1 (LP)

The pads/lights/grid plus Session is a whole other Quantam level for me, too. F'ing brilliant. Having that visual cue outside of the monitor makes me think with more structure and movement. 8)

I have an 8-track grid for live looping in Session (plus a Nanopad for controlling a Looper).

My second 8x8 LP grid is due in the mail on Tuesday. If it works, it will control my 8 track drum grid. I use very big megasets, so I am hoping/dreaming that I will be able to have both views available to me at all times: if I touch any of the pads, the Session view jumps to that scene in either of the grids. The LP is quite brilliant in the way it shows and allows access to overviews in big sets. I believe the APC works the same way.

APC 40 is the smoothest working piece of midi I've seen, bout to get the MPK 49 to run along with it. Anyone use both the Akai MPK 49 and APC 40 on the same computer at the same time?

I fancy one of those too....to replace a no-knob/pad 49 key controller I have.

can you tell this procedere more detailed? Do you jam and if you find the right combination for your ears you put the footswitch to record and finally you arrange the track with your recorded files?

Maybe you will share this idea :o)

many thanks and greetz from austria!

Sure.

I have a template with four audio and four midi tracks and four returns with two delays (short and long effect) reverb and compression.

Say now I'm fiddling around on the acoustic guitar and I come up with a little motif I like. Bam, select track 1 on the APC, tap the tempo humming the motif in my head, engage metronome, arm the track, hit the footpedal to record a clip, get the one bar count in and lay down the motif hitting the footpedal in the final bar to start playing and looping the clip.

The motif now loops while I unarm the track, unplug the guitar plug in the bass and play along on track 2 til I am happy, then bang hit the pedal again and lay down the bass line loop looping again when I get to the right spot.

Drag in a drum kit to one of the midi tracks, fire up the control pad and lay down a rhythm idea and loop again using he footpedal, send it off to the compressor return for some NY comp, dial in some reverb and some delays and inside 10 minutes you've got the basics for your track.

Switch to scene two and lay down your chorus idea in the same way or breakdowns or whatever you want.

Then jam the clips on the APC to record your final arrangement and go in to make final tweaks. Bang, track done.

Granted it gives a certain style of track doing it that way, perhaps my recent stuff lacks variety or 'light and shade' as rave might say, but damn its a great way to get your ideas down.

I totally love it.
