if Live8's been working flawlessly on your system...
I would very much like to know system specs...

I would like to know :
computer
audio/midi interface
vsts/au
average track count

Nope. Even the latest beta crashes randomly on a Mac Pro (2009) It's so random, I can almost never recreate it.

MAC or WIN?

Here's my stationary machine:

Gigabyte mainboard (Socket LGA 775)
4GB (4x1) Corsair DDR2/800 RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
ATI Radeon HD 4350 (Silent) - drivers only, no extra software.
2 x Seagate ST3250410AS JBOD
Win7x64 EN
ASIO4ALL 2.9
AVG Antivirus 9.x
M-Audio FastTrack pro,
Edirol M-16DX,
Saeco Incanto (for an excellent crema)

There's a Dell Latitude D630 /w Win7x64 laptop (2GB RAM) for mobile recording (e.g. drums where we rehearse). But this doesn't count because the CPU is too weak to do anything else than "naked" recording.

In both Configurations Live 8.1.x works in a way I would consider to be pretty stable.

no crashes, ever.

30+ tracks both MIDI & audio; lots of virtual instruments + plugs; only use Ableton instruments and plugs.

why do you use asio4all... your interface is asio compatible no?

While there are certain things that I like about Live 7 more, 8 has been pretty good to me overall.

I've had no major issues with Live post 8.0.5

Only crashes I've had with Live 8 are Max for Live related. Without M4L I've never had it crash.

Still running Tiger (10.4.x)
I pretty much only use the Ableton-provided plugins though and no VST (probably explains the no crashing)

you're right, it is. I'd never buy a sound device w/o ASIO capability.

But ASIO4ALL is much more stable than the Original Roland Windows 7 driver which is a software POS, actually.
Roland's Vista driver is working, though, but I didn't manage to get it running smoothly with a buffer under 512 samples
anyway.
Besides of that I can have another 2x2 Outputs (3x2 altogether) when I connect my M-Audio Fast Track pro and use ASIO4ALL as a, well..."hub" if you want.

what's your midi / audio interface ?

I don't use them.

Occasionally, I plug in MPK49 MIDI keyboard via usb. No issues there.

Sometimes, I plug the audio out from the mini jack into some active Mackies.

At the final stage of a project, I mix down to WAV (no dithering), and xfer to a desktop for "mastering". I use Acid with some Waves plug ins for that.

If I decide to get a audio/midi interface, I'm nearly positive it'll be the Apogee Duet.

Perhaps the fact that I don't use an audio/midi interface and experience zero problems sheds light on what causes Live to crash for other people that do use interfaces...idk
