Seriously, what is the deal with the library of samples, templates, drum kits, clips in Suite 8?

like WTF is "incidental gesture"? why is there not "rock kit tom fill" / "rock kit snare fill" / "techno beat A 122bpm" / "minimal beat A,B,C..." / "disco bassline / muted guitar" etc? Yeah some things are labeled correctly but REALLY?...

I have 50gigs of live installed here and for the most part the library is useless. or am I missing something? is the real 50gig library hidden somewhere? Like why do these clips have lame song names instead of accurate titles? or am I supposed to just naturally understand what RAW, NERVOUS, GIMP, FAKE 5, BUGZ, ANDROID, etc are? isn't the purpose of these clips supposed to aid quick creativity.

as an example I was looking for a simple techno beat yesterday so I could get inspired to write basslines and synth melodies, then come back and re-do the drums properly with my own kit, and instead I find myself plowing through useless dribble for hours, only to program the beat myself in advance anyway. which I intend on doing in the end, but would be nice to just have some handy clips to get started on an idea with before mulching through the library for hours then forgetting what I wanted to do in the first place.

what would be ideal for basic templates (clips / kits / midi) to get started with would be something similar to logic where things are ordered by style / genre and even KEY. Why can't these things be labeled correctly in live?

please tell me I am really dumb and just haven't been able to locate the REAL library. I would actually appreciate that.

side note, I really like the improved audio rendering engine in 8! don't have to export everything to pro tools anymore so that's nice.

I don't have exactly those issues with the library of Live, you're talking about, because I don't use it in that way. I do understand that the system they use in so many other music based software (Native Instruments and Logic, for instance) would be much more logic.

But while you're at it: I'd really like a labeling system integrated in the library for easier filtering and searching... For instance - zero to five stars, and/or color labeling...

Anyway, Maybe a tip for you (until they change their library): When you come across something you like, save it under a logic name for you in a folder, which you bookmark in Live. So you can easily recall it.

I have a list of goto settings for the audio effects in Live in a folder, and it really does speed things up. I've also put my 3rd party vst's in Live racks, so they can be saved in the same folder, so I only have one folder I go to, when doing my basic mixing. I only start exploring the rest if I need something "different"!

Sounds like a safe way to go, particularly when updading from other versions of Live. But can you help by explaining how to bookmark a folder in Live?

Make sure you're in one of the three file browsers of your library. Right click on the folder in your library you'd like to bookmark and select "Bookmark Folder".
To recall a bookmarked folder, select it by clicking one from the drop down list you get when clicking on the link you see in the top of your library when in one of the file browsers...
