Last night installed 8.1.3b2

Tried to uninstall 8.1.3b1 = Wise Uninstall-Could not open INSTALL.LOG file

Then tried to uninstall 8.1.3b2 - same thing = Wise Uninstall-Could not open INSTALL.LOG file

Tonight I just wanted to continue with one of the projects on the go, obvious something is buggy for me with beta uninstall, so I'll use 8.1.1....


went to save in 8.1.1 and got this




couldn't save and had to end task with manager


when I re-open





(I have truck loads of memory with an i7)



Anyone got some idea/advice about this situation/issue.....

Now this opening 8.1.3b2 ?????.....

how much ram do you have and do you have the pagefile not on "system managed" but on a fixed size or disabled?

it looks like the first error killed your config file and thus leading to the second error. try to remove that file and test if it starts then.

I have 3GB of ram with the OS on a 120GB ssd

the pagefile is disabled - should I turn this on to system managed?


which file am I deleting - the library.cfg?

looks like the os + live together needed more than 3gb of ram. at this point, it would move over to the page file if it would exist. and it would expand the pagefile as needed. instead of a crashing application and the resulting issues, it would just have slowed down and reported "low on memory2.

yes, pagefile is there for a reason: it's a saveguard. it's there for the moment where you're low on ram, to jump in and provide more ram. and by offloading stuff that is not really needed to pagefile, you actually get more free usable real ram for your applications.

yes, delete (better: move to somewhere else) the library.cfg

You said you had the paging file disabled.
Did you have the paging file set up on another drive other than C:/ drive? If so, what was the custom size? (in your Virtual Memory settings)

Initial size (MB): ???

Maximum size (MB): ???

Are you also saying Live installed an extra library for your Beta version, and your 8.1.1 version without asking you if you wanted this to happen?

What are your full computer specs and OS?

Can you not use Live at all, beta or your 8.1.1 version?

Have you notified Ableton Support?

OP, daveperm probably ment to trash/delete your 'cfg file'.

Hm, I realize now that the screen dump of the error message says that the library.cfg file is corrupted, so moving it/deleting it does make sense.

Have you scanned your hard drive(s) for disk errors?

well, it is a beta (and he runs it on an ooooold operating system, which most likely isn't main focus of support for ableton anyways. they have to focus on fixing it on snow leopard and windows 7 right now. xp is a dying breed.. and it's a beta

but it looks like this thread will be one of my main supporting threads for continuing explaining everyone "just let the page file be, it's there to save your ass when needed". it is a bit annoying on xp, as it pages too often. but it's great working on vista/win7.


and yes, i talked about deleting the file that is mentioned in the error message, yes indeed that's how i got the idea..

else consider deleting all ableton stuff in c:\program files\ableton (and %appdata%\ableton if that exists.. and your documents\ableton and, well, what ever), then run ccleaner, delete all the evidence of ableton in there (you can just delete apps instead of uninstall them), and then reinstall.

that would be a last effort kind of thing, as you said you can't uninstall it anymore normally...

Yes, set up on another drive

Yes, after moving the library.cfg

I'm a sitting duck! (quack!) can't do a thing with out the CPU blowin' out (it takes about 3-10mins)

Yes Ableton support replied quickly after sending bug report saying :-

"We were able to reproduce the bug.
We're currently investigating the problem.
I' ll get back to you asap."

Every 7-10days

I clean up = delete browser histories/my recent doco's/temp files/shred recycle bin/clean reg/defrag reg/defrag HDD drives (not the ssd)/scan for disk errors

but,...

8.1.1 is not beta, and, will now not work as shown in previous screen shots


I'd be happy to move to windows7 (including the $$$, as this is the way of the future) but need to know that at the end of the day I can release my creative side and enjoy the $$$$ i spent setting up x64 compatible DAW

I have a large DJ set in my laptop which has 3 gigs of ram and runs Windows Vista 32 bit, and I get the same error messages all the time and Live crashes.


I moved that same dj set to my desktop which has 4 gigs of ram and runs Windows XP service pack 2, and I never have a problem with it.

the amount of ram doesn't make sense to me.

My desktop has only 2G and live 8 runs as fine as my laptop with 4G [3G available on win xp sp3].
Just my unskilled point of view

Well there's a good thing from this, the Abes could reproduce it and so they are working on it
