Dub Techno

Post by Mehalic » Mon Apr 12, 2010 3:31 pm

I've been rediscovering my love for everything dub, and really getting back into the dub techno side of things (and the crossover stuff with dubstep). Can anyone recommend any other good artists or mixes I can check out? Lately I've been digging:

Thomas Fehlmann - really digging his stuff
Pole - some nice dub/dubstep crosser stuff
Pavel Ambiont - his Bunker podcast was awesome
Anything Echospace/Deepchord
2562 - like a dubstep crossover sound, loving this stuff
Moritz Von Oswald - king - lol!
Anything Burial (have a bunch of the old 7")
Beat Pharmacy stuff (not all of it, but he has some nice stuff - Brendon Moeller's moniker)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Any other recommendations or links to mixes would be great. Cheers.

Both Pole's & Pavel Ambiont's Bunker mixes were awesome. Also loving the Thomas Fehlmann mix that came out this week on residentadvisor.net

Thanks in advance (I'm expecting some good things from Jeskola!!!).

I just opened for Thomas Fehlman this past weekend, he was amazing live. Super nice guy too, hard to believe he's 57. Check out the Thinner net label too, lots of good stuff on there.

I am in the same boat...

check out: site.echodub.co.uk...the echodub Love sampler 1 and 2 are really good...it is mainly dubstep...

go to Soundcloud and search for NorthernShore ( from ambient to dubtechno): he did some very good mixes. Even a tribute to the excellent BVDUB

Go for deepindub.org...lots of stuff there. Maurizios Mixes are very good

Go to deepgoa. wordpress.com... Actual mix . Moritz von Oswald and Tikiman

Solitude on soundcloud: check out his ambient dubstep mixes...1-6

Protonradio: go to Atmosphere (radioshow) there is a 2 hours mix from the great FLUXION

and so on...

this keeps you busy for a while

I tend to go through waves where I'm obsessed with dub techno and it's just about all I listen to. But I never really go off it all together - it's always a staple. Its a style that translates very very well into live, heck of a lot of fun to play!

I find, more than any other genre of 'bass music' that you really really need a seriously weighty system to fully appreciate it. I know you can say this for just about every low end track, but dub techno in particular for me, I won't bother playing unless the system is really weighty. Annoying thing is that a lot of the types of stages that it would be perfect for a less than satisfactory a lot of the time.

I think it's time for another dub techno sabbatical - ill check out the new fluxion album and dive into that blog.

I forgot the marvelous YAGYA (Rigning)!!!!!!!!

Most of the good names are already mentioned. But next to the well known names there are tons of good tracks to find in the net.
d-track: And I disagree...dubstep has a lot to do with dub techno...think of 2526 or Clubroot or the new Scuba...

Jeskola 1...hopefully there will be new tracks from you soon...your stuff is excellent!

All the best

D-track, there is WAY more to dubstep than wobbles and Ket. There is alot there that has direct influence from Basic Channel/Chain Reaction and Pole. There is also dubstep that empasizes the DUB in it. Others have mentioned some of these, but just to reiterate:

F
Scuba (and his SCB dub techno moniker)
Roof Light (especially the EP on Styrax)
Burial
2562
Martyn
Perevelist

But, back on a Dub Techno topic,
(Besides R&S, BC and CR)
Defintely:
Quantec
Murmur
Yagya
Grit
etc.
