LEXICON PCM Native Reverb Plug-in Bundle
Has anyone used or heard anything about this reverb bundle ?
$1,574.95 (that's without taxes, I believe)

7 day demo available but you need an iLok... I'm gonna time it so I get maximum opportunity to record the output. Might as well. There's no way I'd ever spend that kind of skrilla on some reverb vsts...

Anyway, I'm pretty skeptical. Closest I've come to a lexicon though is the PSP delays... and they were a-ok with me.

To me without any doubt by far the best reverberation plugin on the market. It's expensive at first glance, but compared to a hardware Lexicon it's cheap. The plugin is very easy on the cpu, so you can use many of them. Killer...!!!

On the software front I use altiverb & aether
Also use a hardware spring-reverb. So my reverb needs are pretty much covered, it's going to be hard to top that trio.

I really gotta hear what a $1,800 reverb vst sounds like though. To satisfy idle curiosity if nothing else.

The difference between Altiverb and PCM native is the same as a Moog sound and the sample of a Moog sound for example. One is dynamic, one is static.
2C is good for the money though...

do you guys own this reverb ? what kind of access do you have to it ?
and what kind of music are you using it for... ?

Is it like night & day 'better' than anything else you've heard ? or are the improvements subtle or nuanced ?

I don't own it, but i work with it on a friends DAW. I had a Lexicon 480L a few years ago and when i listened to the PCM Native stuff i was like..."yes...that's it again". So it's more the night and day thing to me. We doing downbeat/electronica/experimental stuff...my myspace site says...

supposedly it's all the algos in the new pcm96 +extras..
it's supposed to be compatible with Lexicon's remotes and low on cpu usage..6-10 instances on a 'modern' machine



as a Lexicon fanboi.. this looks like a "wet" dream...
until I get to the price-tag.. which puts it way out of my price range..
and besides...
I find myself admiring Aether Reverb...which costs considerably less..
between that.. Reaktor's reverbs.. and IRs.. I'm set..

wouldn't be willing to pay more than 100-200$ for a GOOD reverb software anyways..

Speaking of Aether... 1.5 is coming out today...

I sold my Lexicon hardware after I A/B-ed it against the plugs. Multiple instances and no threat of unfixable hardware failure (25 year old box = no spare parts) did it for me. The sound quality is identical, since the algorithms are ported verbatim from the hardware. This is the real deal - "THE" Lexicon reverb sound.

Really great plugin!
I got several older lexicon units and this plugin is at least on par with them and does a few things better.
What you miss compared to the hardware are the other fx: the plugin does reverb only.
What i do not like is that it's clean, instead of the dark sounds of the 224, pcm70 or other vintage lexi's.

There really isn't much of a difference at all, much less than you would believe. Certainly less than a sample moog vs areal moog, as most reverbs have a static sound anyway, unless you are doing something avant-gard with modulation FX.

From someone who has used Lexicons, TC4000s, Eventides etc in studios. Most of the extra 'character' is noise on the vintage Lexicons and vintage Lexis typically only do reasonable room and plate sounds !

If you have Altiverb, or good Impulses for another convolution reverb (pref with stereo in and out), there is barely a difference. GOOD Impulses being the operative word. Some Impulses out there are not that great. Acousticas and others provide really good Impulses, their Bricasti M7 Impulses for free are especially dope. They will get you at least 90% to the sound you want. Unless you have a non linear, modulating effect on the reverb you wish to emulate ...

The UAD EMT250 for example, is said by many who have heard it, including the original designer to sound just as good as the original, and with more features. That won't stop some gear heads trying to find an original hardware unit, of which less than 500 were built.

Hardware has some advantages, such as if you're mixing to analogue console, and it doesn't drain your computer resources, but really, most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference, it's like comparing a well recorded, well mixed, 320 Kbps mp3 vs a Wave file.

As I said in the other thread, you may as well buy a Lexicon PCM92 hardware unit as splash all that money on the plugins. Or an Eventide Eclipse for similar money.

For the home project studio a reasonable convolution reverb which supports stereo in and out and some good Impulses will leave you with a great sound and a lot of spare cash to buy better mics, instruments or synth plugins... your priorities might vary.

ya, the price is outta my league too. Aether is a wonderful reverb btw, do you own it ?
I'm pretty much set with my reverb arsenal too...

Anyway, my philosophy on software reverbs is I'm willing to pay for them the same amount I would for a hardware reverb. Right now, given my needs skills and finances...that's about $500 if it's the dog's bollox.

Which is why I'm hoping for a group buy on the PCM lexicons at some point... seems like a feasible group-buy target. ballpark figure anyway.


I'm pretty slow at making IRs, but I'm practising the procedure to get faster results before I unlock the lexicon demo...and I will spend at least half of the 7 day trial period trying to capture it's sound with impulses.
