Gender changing plug?

Post by tw1nstates » Mon Apr 19, 2010 10:47 am

Hello,

A few years ago a guy I am no longer in touch with played me a track he had done with a dialogue going on between a man and a woman. What was interesting was that it was his voice that he had used for both parts.

I asked him how he had done it and he said it was done in protools with a plugin.

I don't have protools but was wondering whether anyone knew of something similar for Audio Units or mac vst.

I am guessing that it wasn't just pitch shifting cos womens voices are an octave above mens (according to Daniel Letivins book I am re-reading at moment) but obviously the plosives, sibilance and some of the unpitched sounds are going to be at the same or similar pitch).

If anyone has done this and found a good working method and would care to share i'd be most grateful

Thanks
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

1st experiment with live. it will cost you nothing.
2nd ask someone to change it for you using their plugins.
3rd try this plug. i use it. it will do what you want. http://products.zplane.de/index.php?page=elastiquepitch
4th you don't have to do it in this order.

you can try to use complex pro as a warping mode and then pitch. you can there modify some formant parameters to maybe make it sound well.

never actively tried, but got some funny accidental effects out of it.

Brilliant, thanks!

If it's elastique then i should be able to do it in Live then?!?!?

Have been away for the weekend and was thinking about how it would work, I remember trying with live and not getting a good result - sounded like a strange gender bent man rather than a woman.

Of course i could just get a girl to do it but that ruins the geekiness of being able to do it yourself. plus the story isn't so interesting. . .
