Groove Armada - Black Light
Groove Armada - Black Light
This record is the shiz!!!!!!!! (a preemptive fuck you to those who will inevitably disagree)
The last couple of records have experimented in unique directions, but this one has a dirty crunchy overcompressed glam-synth-rock sound, and I loves it!

A new album?!? Fuck ya. Love these guys.
Love their live show too, playing a lot of the music live with instruments as opposed to letting the computer do most of the heavy lifting, unlike....I dunno, just about everybody else who does dance electronica.

^yeah man, this record has so much bizarreness in its song compositions and production techniques that it will be polarizing for sure. I think it's a fairly brave record. Check it out.

Thanks for the heads-up neb!
Always loved 'em. Gonna check out later.

yeah, curious about your opinions...this is not their normal sound...
Re: Groove Armada - Black Light
The only thing that concerns me is this seems to be the "hey let's return to the 80's" sound too many people are trying to do right now.nebulae wrote:this one has a dirty crunchy overcompressed glam-synth-rock sound, and I loves it!
I'll reserve my thoughts until I hear it though.
Re: Groove Armada - Black Light
Well, let's put it this way...where Goldfrapp utterly failed in achieving this with their latest ode to Olivia Newton John, Groove Armada not only succeeds, but takes it to very innovative levels.beats me wrote:The only thing that concerns me is this seems to be the "hey let's return to the 80's" sound too many people are trying to do right now.nebulae wrote:this one has a dirty crunchy overcompressed glam-synth-rock sound, and I loves it!

^ha, yeah, I get the camp...question is do you likes it?
Re: Groove Armada - Black Light
Not sure yet... (nothing against camp ideologically, musically sometimes...)

Re: Groove Armada - Black Light
I'm now starting to hear all sorts of other songs in the record. One song has a Safety Dance vibe, while another has a Smalltown Boy vibe. That's cool.

Re: Groove Armada - Black Light
From my experience brown people have a love for the 80's like no other. Maybe it's because music of the 80's sounds like music from the distant future compared to what's being released in their homeland.
