Install 8.1.3 Suite questions

I want to keep my old Live Suite 7 library (boxed version) & want to have my installed extra stuff in the 8 Suite library.

Would this be the way?:

- Duplicate old Live 7 Suite library.

- Open 8.1.3. (It asks me where to install the new library, right?)

- Pointing it to the duplicated (& differently named) Live Suite 7 library. Let it install over (merge with) it.

- EIC needs no updating/reinstalling, as nothing changed from 7 to 8, right?

- What about Session Drums?

yes.

there will probably be changes. they update stuff from the actual content to more sane names. everyone should try a 'repair library' and get all the latest content. warning, it can take a while.

same as above.

99% of the time I use the latest version, that being said I've never had a problem just updating the same old library I created for Live 3, been updating and overwriting it ever since.

you'll be fine.

btw I dug that Mt Tam meditation jam you posted, I don't usually go in for tunes like that but that was very relaxing. felt like I was hanging out in the Mt Tam cabins. 8)

Thanks Tone!

So I do it how I described & then do a "repair library" (& don't use the install DVDs from the boxed Suite at all)?

using the DVDs would be faster I guess, since there's no download.

do the repair Library after you install, I've seen it take a few hours, I've seen it take less than a minute, it depends on your Library content. of course you might want to play around with Live after you get the Library installed and do the repair overnight or when you're not wanting to use Live.

Everything went smooth! :D

Authorizing, installing, upgrading duplicated old library, "Repair Library" & scanning library took less than an hour. No DVDs used.

"Repair Library" took 8 minutes.

Maybe I had a misconception here. I thought on a "Repair Library" Live would connect to the Ableton server & look if newer content is available for the library. But seems no internet connection for comparing/downloading's taking place… (because in the moment there's no newer content, or never?)

Old library 62.7 GB - new library 64.7 GB

I also checked afterwards, dragging EIC & Session Drums stuff from my new Live 8 Suite DVDs into the open Live window (as compared with stuff already on hard disk, file creation dates differ & size of some stuff slightly differs). For everything I get the message "is already installed", so I hope/think everything's fine.

Live starts up in 9 seconds. Now let's rawk & see if I get crashes…
