Save MIDI assigns for plugins

hey
is the functionality to externally save midi assignments for plugins - both
Lives own and vst/au etc- on the devlist?
or am i missing something?
I have complex assignments for controllers to specific instruments/effects that I
need to be able to save and load freely, ie outside whatever song I am working on. Currently, I cannot even copy these it seems. It's a real pain having to reassign every time. The work around is to have a standard song with all ones devices set up, but...its really clumsy.
I think its vital...this is the age of the LIVE controller!
