7up + M4L + APC40 Help

Hi,
Apologies if you've all seen this post a million times but if someone can help me i'll post a tutorial video.
Basically i want to run my apc40 as a monome using 7up or mlr using max for live.
At the moment when i try to work 7up, i can get my apc to operate the controls but no lights? Any ideas?
Your help will save me yet more endless nights of frustration.
