problems w/midi and ableton

Post by EvanWells » Thu Apr 29, 2010 12:11 pm

I'm going to copy and paste a little bit of what my problem has been from another forum. Thanks, any who care to help out:

I've already gotten this to work before using MIDI-OX.

Previously, I selected preferences in Ableton Live 8:

Control Surface: Tranzport,
Input: USB Audio Device
Output: Out to Midi Yoke 2 [or whatever midi yoke number]

Then in MIDI OX i would configure it to corresponding ins, outs

Inputs: USB Audio Device
Outputs: Out to MIDI Yoke 2

And everything worked.

Now, since then I have downloaded ASIO4ALL so that I could record AUDIO instead of MIDI, which has worked

Now, switching back to MIDI I am encountering a problem:

When I have Ableton up and I try to select "USB Audio Device" in MIDI OX in I get this message:

"USB Audio Device: This device is already in use, wait until it is free and then try again"

I also encounter this using Bome's MIDI Translator.

Ableton is showing that it is recognizing signals with the little yellow light at upper right each time I hit the controller keyboard, but it is not triggering its track setting.

By the way, My ASIO4ALL is only showing NVIDIA(R)nForce and Creative SB Live series soundcards for its device selections, but it is not showing USB Audio Device, and I believe it showed others before. I do not show an option for Nvidiar in Ableton Preferences.

Not sure what to do, if ASIO4ALL has corrupted my MIDI ability through MIDI OX, and if so, how I can just use ASIO4ALL when it won't give me the option to select USB Audio Device or any MIDI parameter.

Any help please please please let me know,

This is my third weekend with maintenance and no recording just trying to figure all this out.

If anyone knows how i can make transition from MIDI to Audio to MIDI to Audio with ease in Ableton please let me know

UPDATE

Now the sound [for ableton] won't even work on playback, [ALTHOUGH seems normal things will, i.e. streaming, youtube],... but i'm having all sorts of driver issues depending on tinkering. In the middle of switching ASIO parameters bluescreen comes up, windows shuts down. Keep getting bluescreen, blackscreen on startup,

error:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

BADDDDDDDDDD BAD BAD BAD BAD STUFF.

UPDATE:

I think my problem is a bit out of hand and may now supersede anything that has to do with ableton or just drivers alone, even if it started with such

Then again I could be wrong, but i found this

Actually, it's probably my IRQ,...

i'm getting the bluescreen any time Ableton starts up now, and i'm assuming it occurs the moment it activates ASIO4ALL panel. This may be because of the explanation provided here about IRQ and multiple devices

unless it's my netgear, but that seems unlikely, considering it seems to always happen with ableton,....

Now even my normal sound won't work for some reason. I use Soundblaster too

Driver conflict? But i thought soundblaster and ASIO4ALL ran separately [which it seems they have], and i always selected ASIO4all w/ableton... again, at a total loss. may have to reinstall asio4all for the 4th time, but i'm thinking of using something else entirely like WASAPI...not sure my problem might be more general,....

Thanks,

-Evan

I recon ASIO4ALL is your problem here. I didn't like asio4all. Try uninstalling it.

I am familiar with the blue screen . . .
