hi!

how dou you best go from ableton live to cubase or any other sequencer?

i often do my beat-sketches in ableton live...but I absolutely do NOT like mixing in live...(and I prefer to do my arranging in cubase also)

what is the best way to go from live to cubase?
i tried rewire, but when live is the rewire-slave, my vst-synts are deactivated...

so what would be a good way?
thanks for your ideas!!!!!

Bounce your audio down to .wav's or whatever and then load them into cubase.. unless it's MIDI stuff that you don't want to bounce to audio because you want to control param's later, in that case I'm not sure.. but bounced audio would be a simple solution for a problem that might be more complicated than that, hope it helps!

Been trying to get my friend to convert from FL to Live (even if just for performance), and it would be the same thing except we'd be taking fully finished tracks and chopping them down to loops for Live's session view.

thanks!

i don“t want to go down the bouncing lane, as when arranging I do all my little edits (a drum fill here, another snarebeat there....) so working with wav-files would be to limiting

so as long as it is not possible to use vst-synths in rewire-slave-mode, I fear that i really have to export the midi-files, save the vsti-sound prresets and import all that into cubase...wich is tedious...

anyone one know if the "no vsti in rewire-slave-mode" is a limit within rewire itself or a shortcoming of the ableton live rewire integretaion?

exporting in live:
1/ bounce stems to audio
2/ right-click it, choose Show in browser
3/ right-click it in live's browser and choose Show in explorer
4/ copy to your folder of choice, which you will use in your cubase project

The no VST within Live is supposedly a limitation of rewire - however, the $59 Renoise program allows you to run VSTS in rewire slave mode, so I'm not sure what to believe with regards to accuracy of 'limitations of rewire'.

But really, you're making a mountain out of a molehill. It takes virtually no effort to just export a MIDI clip and import it into Cubase or 2nd DAW and set up the VST there, there are benefits to doing so too because automation is handled better (IMO) and you can use things such as bezier curves in your automation.

I typically use the render/export all option (making sure to delete return channels first so as not to waste disk space) in Live and then just import those files into Cubase. It's easy and fairly quick. Sometimes I use the short length of time for files to render in a render all to put on a pot of tea.

Rewire is not the greatest option, for starters you need a pretty powerful machine if you're rewiring using Live (both DAW apps need to be open and running) and if you have a heavy project and want to run a lot of seperate channels in rewire (as opposed to just the stereo mix) it can take a lot of load - which is why I typically just export audio and/or MIDI files.

I prefer to bounce individual channels as opposed to stems, but as suggested by 4.33 it's an alternative which might suit you better if you want to save a little time.

thanks!

I know I overreact a little :)
but sometimes I just feel that some little things are missing that would make the creative workflow so much more "fluently"

exporting audio is no real way for me as said before, as i need the flexibility of midi....and exporting midi is just rather tedious (cubase does not allow the import of multible midi-files)...so thats why I asked if anyone has a workflow that I might have not seen...

Am I completely wrong or does FL Studio support the use of VST plugs even when in ReWire mode? If so, there should be no limit for this in the ReWire protocol itself.

I don't know but if you use FL as a VST in a host sequencer then you surely don't need to run it via rewire anyway ?
