Okay, I think I've done everything I should have, but I still don't understand how to access pre-mapped controls for Live instruments in on the SLMK control surface, which should be fully in place as of the most current templates & versions. I understand that Live doesn't really use Automap because it has its own template. When I toggle the Automap button OFF, the display says "Ableton ***WAIT***. That's pretty clear, but then nothing happens (template 32, Advanced mode for non-automapped devices). How long must I wait? (I can hear Smokey Robinson singing in the background...). Is it re-mapping behind the scenes? Am I supposed to be doing something to enable the SLMK? Before adding the last update from novation I would get the message that I was connected to Live, and that I could touch a controller to connect it to an instrument. Now I just get the wait message. The Live Keyboard does play the midi instrument that is in focus in both Live mode and Automap mode. Last question, and now the one I think likely: Is this a setup issue? If so, how do I change things? I've included my Preferences/setup settings below.

I'm on a 2.8Gig Imac with a Presonus Firebox. I also have an APC40, podxt, & nanopad

It ended up being a simple settings issue. I don't remember exactly, but I think I had told the Novation that it was Controller #2 in Settings/Midi, so it wasn't responding to anything beyond standard midi keyboard notes. Once I switched it to Controller #1, it automatically recognized the SL and everything was fine. I'd encourage you to write down all your settings and describe the issue and send it all in to Ableton Tech support. If that doesn't work, send (you saved your work, right:-) the same comment to Novation Tech support. Come to think of it, I think it was Novation that helped me on this one first. Good luck.
