MBP 2.4ghz + FIREBOX + ONYX 1220 = FIREWIRE PROBLEMS ....

so,
i have a MBP 2.4 GHZ 10.5.8.
everything moving along happily, hot-plugging my devices, before i knew there was a
term for it.
first the firewire card on my mackie 1220 onyx stops being recognized, i think
i had it chained to my firebox, then recently, discovered at a gig mind you,
the i/o on my firebox goes completely haywire. inputs work, no signal from
main outputs. luckily outputs 5/6 work meaning i could still play out with live,
but no more cueing and no more knob control on the main level from the firebox.
now...hmmm.. what to do?
pay to get the FW card fixed on the mackie? take MBP to apple? pay to have my firebox repaired?
right now i could use some community input and support....
