Is it possible to control the pads in Drum Rack with the pads on the APC40P? They just keep controlling the clips when I select Drum Rack...

Unfortunately not. The APC20 has a special 'Notes Mode' that can be used to play instruments (and I'm guessing, drum racks) but this isn't implemented on the APC40.

I know it costs but buy a MPK25 to partner your APC, seriously, dream control.

On the launchpad, user mode1 is perfect for doing so.

For apc40 you should try the monomulator from trackteamAudio. It has a keyboard function added

bitching time:

thanks for Ableton for making your flagship controller redundant compared to its little brother. We have to get third party apps to add functionality that should be there already.

NOT VERY CLEVER ARE WE...

Been thinking of this for a while now, the MPK25 looks awesome.

I Use these presets and they work flawlessly...

Go to the 3 minute mark of the first video for Drum Rack Mode. The second videos shows updates from first vid and the new keyboard and chords functionality

The presets are not free, but they're worth it. Better than buying a new controller...

Wow, just wow. Been playing with the new Beta for NativeKontrols apC-CL3 template and its awesome.

In addition to the navigation, scale, chord modes (that can fully enable you to use an APC and nothing else) he has added a drum racks step sequencer and a 'Clip Mode'

Clip mode allows you to chop up clips or play them chromatically, all the while all the other modes are easily accessible.

If you have an APC you need this!

Imo the step sequencer is better than the default Apc sequencer in max for live (although its only for drum racks) and its much more akin to a groovebox workflow. 8)

Yeah, but for the pads alone I would go padKontrol route. No better pads out there imho. Customizing possibilities are great, too.
