I know this can be done using the loop offset envelope, but I'm not able to do it with predictable results. Can anyone maybe explain how this works? Thanks.

You can use the loop offset, but it's easier to take a loop to the arrangement side, zoom in close, and drag the parts around (drop down the volume mixer so you can see the waveform). When you're done, consolidate (ctrl J) and it will add the reassembled loop to your audio folder. Alternately, check out out the free VST plug-in SupaTrigga, which rearranges randomly according to your own probability settings. I like to use this, record the output for a while, and then take it to the arrangement side and move it around until it's just right -- J

it's not about sample offset, but it's a nice way to create breaks in real-time.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll look into both suggested.

another way is:
put an Impulse instrument on a midi track and make sure its panel is showing in the bottom panel
switch to arangement view.
drag a break onto an audio track, hit the arrow to show the wave and cut it using ctrl-e into bits you like.
now drag one of those bits onto the button that switches to session view ... it will flip to session, hopefully you are still dragging that drum chunk, so drag it into an Impulse slot.
repeat that for any other beaty chunks you like.

now you have a saveable kit made up of breakbeat chunks which doesnt need making into a new sample via consolidate, saving you a few k of disk and keeping flexibility alive

actually you don't have to switch to the arrangement view to do this....just drag a loop to a slot in session view.....isolate a bit of the loop that you like with the loop markers and then drag from the session slot to the impulse slot. Now go back to the same loop, choose another hit with the markers and drag again.....and again and again
