Is there any way around this message that says I cannot freeze a track with side chain compression on?

Do I really have to bounce it all to audio and then compress the audio?


Any help much appreciated...

i'll often record the side chained stuff to another track....

A quick trick i use is this: temporarily put your sidechain compressor in another track.
Now freeze and flatten the track. Drop the compressor back in.

I often use Export Audio function. Just select the area in arangement view then Ctrl+Shift+R (if i remember correctly) and select track I want to "freeze" from the context menu
then create new audio track and drop your rendered file there.

I also recently had to come up with a solution to a similar problem. I find that I prefer to bounce down or resample audio in live using I/O settings to route multiple tracks down to a single audio file, instead of exporting out then loading the track back in.

So I'm wondering, is this not the norm, and is there any difference in the end result. I find it to be faster and more convenient when doing things like bouncing, say a drum track with parallel compression, three guitar parts, and 2 synths, down to three clean audio tracks. I just want to make sure I'm not hurting the sound quality doing this.

afaik you might have dropouts if you do your method - you wont get those if you render the audio.

I normally duplicate the track, delete/disable any/all fx then freeze it and use the audio in the first track.

I'd agree on that.

I just take the track and group it by itself, move the sidechained effect to the "group," freeze the track, and then often just leave it that way so I know that that track is receiving a sidechain. Plus, then I have the option of unfreezing that track later if I decide I need to make some changes. Sometimes I give the group a color or title that indicates that it is receiving a sidechain.

This is what I do, it's annoying routing the track to an audio and then record in my opinion.

This works pretty well for general pumping/sidechain use and you can freeze with it on.
