need follow actions help for cutting up breaks with clips

Hello,

i need advise on follow actions for cutting up breaks in live's session view.

all my drum clips are on one track in a stack.

i have a vanilla (unchanged 2-bar) breakbeat in clipslot one, and then I put a bunch of permutations of that break
below it. some will be short loops of the kick, some will be short loops of snare, etc.. some will be off tempo bits of the loop to give a drum fill/ cut up feel.

all clips are set to legato and 32nd note quantize.

here's what i need help with

i want to set the clips (other than the top one) to gate, and have it follow action back to the first clip when i let go of the clip.

is this possible w/ live alone? if not, can i do it with bome on mac, or mfl?

thanks

I'm not sure it can be done with Live alone, but it can be definitely done with Bomes, and M4L....

Cheers

Perhaps I should re-phrase. If I set a clip as gate, can the act of letting go ( note off ) serve as a signal to start a follow action

ah, now I understood. Nope, this doesn't work, I just tried with both gate and repeat-setting.

I break up beats using the launchpad with a row of clips, but without using follow actions and in order to get back to the original beat I need to trigger it again. I set the variation-beats on repeat-mode, quantization set to 1/8th notes.

thanks, livecut is a good find. i already have many 'auto-glitch' plugins, but this one is very helpful. There are now so many ways to get these effects; livecut, effectrix, supa trigga, beat repeat, MFL: buffer shuffler, lucifer, artillery, buffer override > i guess it's just a matter of picking which one works best for you.

that using midi note numbers to trigger device on/off vid is interesting. i guess that would be nice vs. having a dozen automation lanes for each device on/off signal.

What i was looking for was something i control manually with the APC40.

When using the apc40, having the follow action go back to 'first clip' means i could be 6, or 7 or more clips down and still have it go back to my 'full loop' clip in the first slot. (apc40 is only 5 rows of clips, so you can't get back to clip 1 quickly if you're down on clip 7) i found a work-around by 'manually midi mapping' the top clip button of my APC40 to that one clip (full loop). it just means i lose the 'banking' ability of that clip for other things.

thanks for all your help guys.
