Play v.2

i installed the 2.0.9 update of the play engine for eastwest symphonic orchestra a week ago and now it constantly crashes live [7.0.18]. i've e-mailed the company about the issue and i'm still waiting for a response, perhaps a link to v. 1.7.6 which i had no problems with...
all of you who are looking to install the update should make a backup of your current install just in case. best of luck.

OK, so it`s not just me. I am using 8.1.3 and installed PLAY 2.09. Now Live says
Failed to create VST "play_VST"
This VST Plug-in is not compatible with Live.
I rescanned my VST directory but now Live doesn`t even show it in the list.
Live 7 does the same thing. Tried reinstalling the iLok drivers as well but no good.

this is probably a solid reason why they should keep their libraries open for use with other samplers until their front-end is up to par.

MOTU Ethno is acting weird on me too so could be an iLok issue....

Eastwest told me that Play v2 is not compatible with Live. I have rolled back to v1.2.5.3, which is working except for some random issue with Gypsy.

Play has always given me issues. I hate that garbage. The sounds are so good so I keep trying (Gypsy/Voices), but the software is butthole. And you're stuck with it if you buy it. No reselling allowed..

I haven't upgraded to v2 yet, still on 1.25 but I did have a strange issue where all of my sounds started giving me the crazy "license key" error.
I just updated the iLok software and they are loading now.
So as of right now everyone's advice is NOT to upgrade play correct?
I'm still running Live 7

Yeah, I came to the conclusion that this has been the root of all my Live crashes recently. Just fucks up everything.

the sounds are nice, yes. and yes, don't upgrade to v.2 unless you're not using play with live. this entire situation is a fail. somewhat of an epic one at that.

glad I read this before I upgraded! I've heard about a lot of issues with play, so far I haven't had many with 1.25 or whatever, besides that random "license key failure" thing
they need to get this "v 2" fixed if it's causing so much trouble, Live is my main host for plugins, so...yeah, I'll just wait until it's working properly!

v2 is performing on par with v1.x for me, but do stick with an earlier version if you aren't currently suffering from any issues. the changes are for the most part under the hood, the biggest being that the sample pre-load issue is fixed.

what sample pre-load issue are you referring to?
I haven't run across many issues in my use, but I don't do full orchestra mock ups either so maybe I'm not pushing it hard enough?

there was an issue where not all samples would load until an arrangement had played through a few times. samples would cut off, even when rendering to disk.
