Ableton Forum

Hello fellow blogers I been djing since 1990 so it's Been a long time. But I'm new to live but I been remixing from out the wound. I am excited to see when ableton and serato do this bridge BUT I'm stuck on which live to get or I should say keep. As of now I have live 8 but the demo verison for the suite seem very attractive, I am very fond of how DJ Enferno does his lrp and I think I can bring it on the same level but I play a lot of reggae soca and hip hop music. So with that in mind what do I do? Ableton live 8 or suite? Can I achieve all what I want to do with 8 and get something like Reason. But then again I like sampler and very interested in the sounds operator makes. And yes I search this forum to see what other people think. I have a new 27 inch I-Mac with serato apc40 ttm57 and I'm on cdjs also I have the m-audio fast track pro. Talk to me!

I think most people would agree that at the very least, Operator is an exceptionally valuable tool. It is easy to use and produces excellent sounds. Sampler is also an awesome tool, especially for chopping up samples as one would for djing. In my opinion the other aspects of the suite version are not quite as important, but you can definitely make some great work with them. It is kind of up to you on what you think you will use and how. Nothing wrong with just live 8, but I would recommend the suite, it is a pretty awesome deal after all.

Well Dave than for the quick reply! But it's like you said the suite is a good choice and to me ableton knows how to get your money. For 1 I hate using 3rd party anything but from reading this forum it's seems like that's the move. I just don't want that shit I should have done it that way feeling I'm like 2mins away from buying suite but then here comes the suite or box version the saga just keep continuing they know how to suck the blood out of you

Why don't you head on over to the Ableton Downloads page and try out suite for yourself? That way you can get a feel for the instruments contained in it.

For what it is worth, I have Live without any of the extra instruments and I haven't missed any of them. All comes down to your personal preference of sounds.

That's my problem I did the trial and I'm hooked. I did a remix of dirty money and it came out hot in my opinion but I'm fishing to see if I need to a. Have the suite and create my sounds or b. Use what I have and look for everyelses sounds. But the bad part is I like sampler much better than simpler and having a drum rack is better than having implulse. Can I do what I did in simpler and impulse or am I just limited?

you shouldn´t hate it, it´s a big sound world outside the ableton universe...
i have the suite but actually all i use is operator and the sampler... all the rest comes from external plugis.

i would say: nearly every sound in the suite you can get better somewhere else. there are better analog synths than "analog" etc... but you have to look for them, compare, decide, learn how to use... when you get the suite you have a lot at once.

As the others said, Operator is well worth it, but I have become totally dependent on the Drum machines and Latin percussion packs. Also, Electric came from AAS Lounge Lizard which was considered the best electric piano emulator for a long while, and I actually disagree with Saxer about Analog - the thing that lets Analog down is only that it doesn't have FX in built into it like it's AAS Ultra-Analogue counterpart, and the Ableton way of presenting Instrument racks doesn't make it that easy to figure out which racks include Analog, but the sound of it is actually pretty outstanding, and when you add the FX it can go a long way

I do like sampler as well

Having said all that, Native instruments Komplete is the only other thing that I would consider (over Reason for example) as it's really very impressive and the really good presets are much easier to find and access and the sounds are hard to beat
