Tascam US-122 + presario laptop = 2 stereo outs??

I ordered a compaq amd64 3000+ laptop today. I want to get an inexpensive sound card that will allow me to have 2 seperate stereo outs. I realize that the US-122 has only 1 set of stereo outs But I am wondering if live would allow me to use the onboard headphone jack for a cue mix and the stereo outs of the US-122 as a main mix. And if that is possible is it likely that the latency difference between the outs (if any?) would be too great for me to be able to play/record loops with my vsti's While listening to the cue(onboard)mix.?

Any help would be greatyl apreciated.

i can't speak for the US-122 but some different combinations of soundcards will allow you to use both with ableton live... either by using asio4all v.2 or this method: http://www.aouw21.dsl.pipex.com/ableton ... cards.html

maybe you can borrow one from someone to find out, or buy from somewhere with a decent return policy / minimal restock fee?

Thanks for the great link. I see it may be possible but because latency is such a big concern for my i think i better opt for the midiman audiophile USB. Its about the same price and has 2 stereo outs and 2 stereo ins using SPDIF in. Much more up my alley.

Eh .. go for the Midiman. No, you cant cue with the Tascam, I tried everything, but its not seen as a seperate out in Live.

Also: (last but not least)

US-122 has serious issues with the drivers in XP. They hard crash my machine .. Live locks up and next thing I know I am looking at a bluescreen.

Its definitely the drivers for this thing, its a known issue, Tascam has shown no response (as of last I looked) on this and thier support hardly exists. Look at thier US website, it was designed back in 'Nam.

i have the us122 and the echo indigo io. both only have stereo io, the us122's inserts come in handy, if you hav an external effects processor. i read a thread here on this forum or on em411 that led me to a driver called asiox. it sums all the audio ins and outs connected to your computer under one asio driver. now i use my us122 for cue mix, and my echo for main output [because it sounds better]

Yeah, I already own an ART DI/O AD/DA tube converter, so if i hook that up to the audiophile along with my beringer 902A mixer I will have 4 ins and 4 outs which is just what i need.
I can use the analogue outs of the tube converter for a house mix and the RCA outs on the audiophile into the 2 track in on the berhinger for a cue mix. I'll run the main outs on the berhinger into the Converters analogue in and the Aux bus to the RCA's on the audiophile. 4*4 audio for about 200 bucks.

Nice! Thanks, I dowloaded this driver and managed to get Master out on my Audiphile 24/96, cuing on the US-122 Headphone ....

I problem though:

Now I cant get Live to hear audio coming into my line/guitar ins on the Tascam - at least in this configuration. Are you using inputs on the Tascam with your setup?

PS: still bluescreened windows with the Tascan after I started using the asiox drivers, so its still crap to me under xp ;)

The US-122 also has some serious issues running under OS X, and I've heard reports it doesn't like other versions of windows, too. In fact, I haven't heard of a platform that this soundcard -does- run well under..... hrms, that's mighty suspicious. ;]

I haven't had any issues w/ the us122 on OS X or XP.

BUT - you need to get Firewire or an Indigo Card if latency is a concern.

I haven't checked out USB2 though...
