Reverb / pro sound

Hi guys,

I'm working some new tracks and I'm quite happy about the overall mix but I feel my creations still miss that "extra" polish sound that we could listen to pro tracks!

After a carefull listen to reference productions I think that's something to do with reverb... In fact these high quality tech house tracks have a cool natural reverb (deepness) atmosphere giving some "air" to the sounds.

Any cool advices about that point? Reverb on the master bus? Small but high quality reverb plugin on the individual sounds?

Thanks for your help

Peace

Dan

This is a pretty common issue with creating tracks actually, so don't feel discouraged. First off, Live's reverb settings typically aren't geared towards that naturalistic, crystal clear reverb that everyone has heard. They are more useful for "placing" your tracks in the mix or creating a deliberately echo-y type sound.

Also, what you hear on "pro" tracks is typically not JUST a reverb setting, but a combination of a few effects to achieve the sound, such as filters, eq's, utilities, stereo, etc. It is rare to slap a reverb plug in on an instrument and BAM, instant pro reverb sound. There are of course better reverb plugins which you can purchase, but that is up to you. And even still, throwing one of those on your track will not necessarily give you a pro sound.

hope this is a start for ya,
cheers

Some great advice from Dave. You may want to post your track in Link Your Music forum where you may get more pointers on your particular mix. I look forward to listening to it.

Thanks a lot for your feedbacks.

I've studied a lot about mixing, EQ, panning and stuff latetly and I know that could make a big difference between pro sounding productions and amateur once :D

On the reverb specific subject... any advice about a cool pristine natural souding one?

I don't mind a very clean mix gelling 'verb on the master every now and then. Only like 1% wet/dry or something like that, just a subtle air.
