Wardorf Attack:

You used to be able to get it cheap as part of Wardorf Edition:

For straight emulations then d16 are hard to beat.

Audiodamage Tattoo is a fun emulation of an 808/909 but with some very cool sequencer randomization that can also be used as a sequencer to drive other drum machines or synths.
Both of Ableton's Operator and Analogue are also able to make some very cool percussion sounds.
There used to be a rack availble for down load on the forum some place.
Couple those abilities with drum racks and lives midi devices and you can generate some very cool drum tracks.
I also have Collision and corpus, but i have yet to spend much time going beyond the presets.

In case you're looking for a real synth instead of softsynth, Machinedrum from Elektron is second to none.

From softsynths I prefer Microtonic from Sonic Charge.
1. it's synth, not a sampler.
2. it has very original sound that I like very much.
3. it's light on cpu.

i suck at layering kick samples and making bass sounds so im hoping this will be a different approach

It looks very promising. Maybe demo it and tell us what you think of it ;-)

Try Tattoo by Audio damage

Sounds great and has the best user interface for any drum synth/sequencer ever in my opinion.

Hej Buzby,

you have Reaktor 5 in your signature and ask for a drumsynth, really?

check aerobic or sinebeats 2 from the factory library, search the user library!

http://co.native-instruments.com/?id=userlibrary

it will save a lot of money.

+1

Reaktor is pure win.

I like Microtonic, but my only issue with it is it sounds too distinctive - meaning it always sounds like microtonic, which can sometimes be not good.

Another Microtonic vote.
