Problems with Microkorg thru MPD24 in Live

Hello,
Im relatively new to Live ,coming from a pretty much all hardware background. I'm trying to do a couple things to no avail and not finding any help when searching for it.
OK, first trying to connect my Microkorg to Live to use as a midi controller via the MIDI IN on the MPD24. The MPD is working fine and all the pads that I assign a sample to are triggering the correct corresponding pad in Drum Rack, etc. When i press keys on the Microkorg it also triggers some of those same sounds but Im a bit confused as to what lay out is as it seems a bit random. I have to manually octave Shift and change program numbers up and down on the Microkorg and in general its just a disorganized mess.
What I want to do is assign one sound over two or three octaves and be able to play it at various pitches. Which I believe you can do in the Simpler zone tab, right?
Also, Id like to be able to do the same for the MPD, is it possible to have one sample pitched over all of the 16 pads a la the MPC 16 note level function? When I press the 16 levels button on the MPD, they all seem to be the exact same pitch--there must be a way to make these pitched thruout the 16 pads, right?Do I need to download a driver or something?
Appreciate any help
Oh and Im using Ableton 8.1
