Problems with Microkorg thru MPD24 in Live

Hello,

Im relatively new to Live ,coming from a pretty much all hardware background. I'm trying to do a couple things to no avail and not finding any help when searching for it.

OK, first trying to connect my Microkorg to Live to use as a midi controller via the MIDI IN on the MPD24. The MPD is working fine and all the pads that I assign a sample to are triggering the correct corresponding pad in Drum Rack, etc. When i press keys on the Microkorg it also triggers some of those same sounds but Im a bit confused as to what lay out is as it seems a bit random. I have to manually octave Shift and change program numbers up and down on the Microkorg and in general its just a disorganized mess.

What I want to do is assign one sound over two or three octaves and be able to play it at various pitches. Which I believe you can do in the Simpler zone tab, right?

Also, Id like to be able to do the same for the MPD, is it possible to have one sample pitched over all of the 16 pads a la the MPC 16 note level function? When I press the 16 levels button on the MPD, they all seem to be the exact same pitch--there must be a way to make these pitched thruout the 16 pads, right?Do I need to download a driver or something?
Appreciate any help

Oh and Im using Ableton 8.1

I think you probably want to set your Microkorg to send MIDI on a different channel from the MPD24. Then you can assign the MPD24 to one MIDI track in Live and the Microkorg to a different MIDI track by selecting the appropriate channels in each Live track. You would do this in the channel strip, under where it says "MIDI From" -- instead of "All channels," select the channel to which you have assigned each device.

Ark,

Thanks- that didnt really completely solve my issue but I think it may have partially...

in reference to your:

"instead of "All channels," select the channel to which you have assigned each device."

Im still not sure how I know what channel I have set a given device to ...

how do i find that out?

Whenever you press a pad or move a control, the MPD24 displays what channel it's sending on. Look in the LCD under where it says "MIDI CH." You can set it individually for each pad and control. I don't know how to find the corresponding information for the Microkorg, but I am sure it's in the manual.

Yeah, I feel like Ive done all of those things, but there is no MIDI IN2 in the drop down under "Midi From" on the I/O Setup.

There is as follows:
MPD24 Input (Akai MPD24 Port 1)
Akai MPD24 Port 2
Akai MPD24 Port 3

I can have it set up so the MPD unit and the Microkorg are triggering the samples (independently on their own separate tracks) from say a bank on Drum Rack but what still baffles me is how the samples are layed out on the keys of the Microkorg, how i can change how they are layed out, and more importantly how i can lay one pitched sound over the keyboard in Sampler(which I know is possible cause Ive done it before while just messing about).

As for the 16 note pad on the MPD, im just going to assume is not possible?

Sorry if Im not properly articulating what the problem is, appreciate your help/.
