I've installed Automap 3, and the Ableton template for controlling Live seems to work fine.
If I then press the Automap, Inst and View buttons on my 25SLMkII, the heads-up display for my VSTi appears. And the 25SL screen shows the first 8 parameters.
When I turn the pots, or press a button, the relevant values change in the VSTi. But when I turn the encoders nothing happens...
I know the encoders work, as I can successfully MIDI map them from another template. So any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Never mind. Seems to have been sorted by an upgrade / re-installation.
