Profire 2626 issues/crashes

Hello all,

I've just completely upgraded my studio, Macbook Pro i7 with 8gb ram, and M-Audio ProFire 2626, and i'm having some teething problems. Basically, i can set up a Live session and it'll work fine, but if i go and have a break, when i come back something has gone wrong. I can hear the input from, say, the drums running through the computer into the PA, but there is no visual representation of this within Live, and none of the effects work. I can however launch clips and see them bopping away, but then no sound is produced. If i try to change any of the preferences at this point, i get the full "you have to restart your computer" crash.

I have all the latest drivers, the latest version of live, and a completely updated Snow Leopard running. I also have the driver for my Firewire 410 installed, which i use for more portable recording, but i don't think this would be an issue.

I would greatly appreciate any help you could offer as i am very frustrated, but also excited about getting everything working.

Thanks

Si.

Sorry to have to be the one to tell you, but chances are its the profire thats at fault. I bought one recently too knowing that there might be some issues with the profire in general after having read the angry m-audio forum. But was a little naive in thinking m-audio were going to fix the drivers as soon as 1st thought. Some people have been waiting 19 months for new drivers. The profire simply isnt stable for live performance with anything. I just went through a recording process with it, and there was no end of problems. Was actually hoping ableton would work better than logic with it, but I dont think thats going to be the case unfortunately. (Just as a side note, the m-audio forums are user run forums - not actual it support. So youre never in contact with anybody who can actually change anything) I going to switch my profire pretty soon. But its always the case that you might be blamed for the software faults when you sell 2nd hand. Anybody whos thinking of getting an maudio interface should really check their forums for some sobering discussion.

Course it could be ableton! :) Heres hoping.

I would advise everyone to avoid maudio products for the time being until they get their act together. Because they dont seem to care about anybodys problems on their forums - and itll only be when they see a dip in their sales theyll realise how important it is to maintain a reputation. Id never buy m-audio again anyways, thats how bad its got.
