hi. i am a newbie to ableton and i am absolutely loving it. i purchased mainly to perform live using my macbook. however i don't really want to carry around an external sound card as well as a laptop and controller.

a local dj shop owner told me recently that there are companies who can install internal sound cards into macbooks.

has anyone heard of companies like this and has anybody had this done?

many thanks

metro

never heard of it, but i honestly doubt it is a good idea...

depending on the specs needed... (well naturally given the size and connex possibility, any type of internal soundcard want give you much features / options) i would ALWAYS go with an external...

you are simply more flexible... and future proof, there are very small and super light good soundcards around...

NI's audio dj2, motus new microbook, apogee's one or duet, rme's babyface, etc. etc.

external is the way to go, if you want a professional solution.

nothing that i heard of, but for live purposes you want something with PROVEN stable drivers at least.
nice tunes by the way

I wish but I doubt anybody doing it. Which card would fit anyway?
The build in is noisy and rather poor sound but usable in emergency. I actually did it last week-very unsteady weather, uncovered open air stage, wanted to minimise gear to grab and run in case of rain (Novation SL and the lappie only). Live + reason rewired with several synths/combinators - no issues at all, something that would never work on pc (even with ASIO4all). It was windy anyway so who would hear the noise....The sound of those chips is equally shitty on pc or mac even for movies or general listening.

unless you need more than one output, your mac's standard out should be fine. especially for live use.
