Hi,
Want to get into doing some live looping, but had a quick question. How do people avoid mic bleeding when they are beatboxing live? It seems to me that when you set up one loop and beatbox over it, the mic will pick up the sound of the first track.
It seems to me that there would be no way to avoid this, just minimize it with eqs, monitor placement, etc, is this the case, thanks!

It is a matter of mic choice, and where do you put your hands I guess.

A gate on the vox input, then experiment with the threshold. It might take some added volume on your part, but gates are tailor-made for situations like this.

Your vocal mic shouldn't be picking up much of any of the monitor mix, especially if you have the mic in your mouth ( ) otherwise bleed won't be the only problem, you'll have feedback. A typical handheld mic for stage (e.g. SM58) has a pretty tight, directional pickup pattern, and monitors should be in front of you, pointing toward the back of the mic.

Also, a decent sound guy at a venue will place his monitors in positions that will not cause feedback.

Some friends of mine do live looping,
they use in-ear monitoring to avoid
mic bleeding (and feedback of course).

Yep, ear monitors are the ultimate solution.
