MIDI foot controller?

I've seen the video in this website "Play Live with a footcontroller" (not the right name, but you know wich video 
) and I've tried with my old Yamaha MFC06 foot controller but nothing happened... I see the midi light flashing in Live but I can't change program, Live recognizes only note-off, I think... Do I need a particular Midi foot controller to being able to launch different scene like the guy in the video? Please help this poor guitarist
