hi

i have a hybrid approach to production which involves using my own sounds and using pre recorded loops(from sample cds).
I generally focus on arrangement, after that focusing on the mix down. Im wondering if anyone knows a good tread/discussion/tutorial on how to approach mixing down loops. scenarios are

i use a perc loop that is stereo, do i leave it? pan it? mono it? to fit other perc sounds

I dont want necesssarily a specific answer to this, but more the dos and donts, tricks, what works, what doesnt,

hope to hear from someone soon

no easy button here.

but remember this - many sample CDs are already highly processed in terms of EQ and compression, so don't usually require a lot of adjustment in those areas. If you are having a hard time getting loops to sit in a mix, you can often slice the loops which often allows you to reclaim the different elements (on percussive loops at least) and seperate them yourself with their own individual processing.

Exactly what I was going to say.
