Is the novation remote 25 the best midi controller for Live?
.........touchpad, x-y stick, knobs, sliders, buttons......
what competes with this?

I think so, just got it yesterday, excellent keys and everything else. It is that good that I will get rid of it...????..... as soon as I get the 49 or 61 which is not yet available ( I pre ordered it today). I didnt expect it to work that fine, the keys are absolutely ideal for me, the stick and pad work fantastic. Very expressive to play. Setting for each song takes seconds, additionally works well with Cubase and Reason.
I was planing to use it with other controller but I like these keys more then any other so will just get the bigger version.

As a happy owner of a R-25, the thing that makes it worth the price of admission for me is that you can set min and max transmission ranges for each knob/slider. This is so musical, say you are comtrolling the cutoff freq of a filter in Live: just set the min and max range of the knob to sexy harmonics and everything in between will be gold - otherwise you'd just be blathering about over the full range of the filter with no precision......
oh yes, if you've got a complex setup, its great that each of the R-25's controls can be set to transmit on its own midi channel and choice of midi out A, B or USB (in any combination)
only downside for me is the sliders don't stand up to much abuse - broke one in the heat of a gig - and the knobs are only attatched to the circuit board and not bolted to the case as per the oxygen 8. but the oxy8 isn't 1/10th as smart at the R-25

have you tried replacing Oxy 8 knobs? Mine's been at my mate's for a couple of years and I don't know why but the knobs have totally frozen solid and basically break off when you try to turn them. If it's poss. to open it up and replpace them then I'll do that.

Who knows..the (ahem) wonderful Tokyo air (it is actually a city by the sea!!)? He is a major studo rat so there's doubtless some fairly evilly caustic tobacco smoke buildup going on I'm sure..other than that, who knows?

I dig mine. It's just what I need.
The programmable CC range IS the sh*t man. I have mine set up so that the sliders transmit from 1-100 and no higher - that way, the slider at the top of the range is 0db in Live's mixer. Keeps things from clippin.
Wouldn't trade it for anything.
The XY pad is nice for controlling two things at once - you can program two CCs to each direction, so I guess I should really say four things at once.

Can`t find why it goes to template 12 on power on, I mean is there any global setting for which templete loads as default on power on ? Live is 1 and 2 in my set but it always powers on to 12 ???

Yep, if you hit the global button, then the write button, the display will flash "globals saved". This includes the template that you were currently on as power-up default.

It would be nice if the buttons had visual feedback, with LEDs (like the record button does), this would save the confusion of things like "is that effect bypassed or just all the way down? if i move the fader now will it do anything or is the eq out?"

thanks
That's exactly what I meant.
The ads in the Japanese net still says Windows only.
We're littile slow in translating from the new releases.
Especially in drivers.
Thx.
+Does the Remote 25 work great with the OSX and LIVE4 ?
+Can it do sometype of Mackie Control devices?
ex) When the faders on the browser is moved, the fader on the 25 will move, too.
+Does the button and dials have light functions when pressed ?
I know.
I should ask the manufacturer.
But why not chit chat overhere with my abe dudes ?
thx
cheers
