3-band DJ EQ / Kill?

Post by samtastic » Sun Jul 18, 2010 1:49 pm

hey guys,
searched the forums but couldn't find what I was after. Im sure someone must have already asked this.

Im using the VCM-600 with Live. I want to get my hands on a 3-band EQ (low, mid, high), where unity will have the pots set pointing up (like on most DJ mixers). This doesn't happen with Live's standard 3-band EQ (unity on it, is about 30º too far to the right). I tried building my own with a rack, using the 8-band EQ (where unity is the centre, due to it being plus and minus 15dB) and a 3-band EQ for its kill buttons. However, it's way to sensitive. At -10º (0º being unity, with the pot point straight up), the frequency is just about killed, and at +10º, it's peaking too much.

So, in essence:

has anyone build a better 3-band EQ rack than me?

Or

is there a (stable, light-on-CPU) 3rd party plug-in that is a 3-band EQ with total EQ kill?

cheers,
sam

cheers : )

which version of Live is this for? Doesn't work in Live 8.0.6 (the version I've been using, most stable on my system). But works in Live 8.1.4 (the latest version; trying it out at the moment... seems stable)

doesn't seem to colour the sound nearly as much as the standard Ableton 3 EQ : )

I've just been made aware that the link was down. Well now it's up again.

Great rack this, I spent all morning EQing, and I hope to EQ some more this afternoon ^^

There's a DJ EQ rack I made that mimics Live's EQ3 using EQ8's for better sound quality, as well as making the "off" position of each knob at 12 o'clock.

Note that you NEED to be using Live 8.1.3 or newer to use these racks.

My main goal was trying to replicate the control and EQ curves of EQ3 as close as possible, but give people who didn't like the "color" EQ3 adds by default or the knobs defaulting to 3 o'clock a better option.
