I'm laying out basic sketches of a song here, but it needs either something more in the middle before the pad sound at 2:30 comes in, or after the point where the song currently ends, but I'm still a bit of a novice in regards to song structuring/production, and I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on ways to expand or improve on it aside from the obvious lack of mixing that has been applied at this stage.

I think that there is too much intro and not enough song. You could try bringing in the drums much earlier. You could also have the chord changes begin sooner, too. Finally, it could use some kind of melody. Call me old-fashioned, but I still think that a song needs melody, harmony, and rhythm.
