Hello,
I am an Ableton novice and have been trying to figure this out for some time (I'm also fairly certain that the answer is in a deceivingly obvious place): I've recorded various audio and midi tracks in arrangement view, and I've got them all lined up like I want. Now, I want to go back and fiddle with the various macros of the effects on my sends and master. I want these changes to be recorded/saved so that when I play the track back (or export it), they're in effect as I'd like. But the effects are all I'd like to change/save.

I've tried un-arming all of the tracks to ensure that they aren't overwritten, and then just hitting the play + record transport buttons. This works just fine for say, the filters, because the effect remains on and I just move the x-y parameters back and forth. (These actions appear to be saved, and a small red square appears next to the parameters that change during playback -- haven't deciphered exactly what this square represents..?)

However, I also want to be able to save the on/off changes I make during realtime on, say, a beat repeater. When I do play/record, and turn it on and off as I'd like to, those changes aren't saved. Is the only way to effect these changes (no pun intended) by creating a 'device on' envelope for the effect and editing it manually?

there is a button to the right of the "OVR" button on the top of the arrangement view that looks like three horizontal lines with an arrow to the right pointing at the lines. this is the "override automation" button- see if that does anything for you.

you should be able to just hit record and apply these changes (even the beat repeat on/off) as the track plays and it should record them.
