Regulators agreed, declaring Monday that “the activity of an iPhone owner who modifies his or her iPhone’s firmware/operating system in order to make it interoperable with an application that Apple has not approved, but that the iPhone owner wishes to run on the iPhone, fits comfortably within the four corners of fair use.”

I read this earlier today. I also noticed this paragraph in the same story, about software dongles -
A federal appeals court came to the same conclusion last week in an unrelated dispute about “dongles,” or keys that grant access to software. “The owner’s technological measure must protect the copyrighted material against an infringement of a right that the Copyright Act protects, not from mere use or viewing,”

Nothing wrong with giving Apple $. The iPhone is a somewhat decent hardware device. If it wasn't locked down by the greedy bastards who market it I'd be more interested in getting one.

uh huh...
funny thing is that Apple released all those commercials about how Windows compartmentalizes folks...

now what??? they do it better? (double)
i guess its different when most of your user base not only embraces this.. but encourages it. call me old fashioned but i am still of the belief that not every update brings improvements... which WE (Live users) certainly know and which is why i don't do auto-updates on most software/OS etc. that i own.
i've never owned a turtle neck either.

Oh, great. More asswipes jail breaking their iPhones and then clogging up every Internet forum known to man when their syncing goes haywire.
Kill me now.

@ LSZ... thats a nasty side effect that. lolz at Steve but, for the paying customer like you and others here, its lame in the sense that it affects your experience and price points like software piracy affects actual paying customers in the big boy app industry.

People getting moist between their legs because jail breaking is finally *legal*.
Here's how this always plays out, time and time again. Without fail:
Douche #1 posts on internet forum:
"Hey, what's the best way to jailbreak my iPhone?"
Douche #2 gives detailed instructions.
Douche #1 posts back within hours:
"Awesome, got it working!"
2 days later
Douche #1:
"Hey, guys. My iPhone will no longer sync, and my calendar thinks it's 1957."
Douche #2:
"Oh yeah. That happens sometimes."
Kill. Me. Now.
When will people learn to not fuck with the beautiful gift that Jobs has given us?
