Filtering out MIDI data during importing into Live

Wile viewing the MIDI files in the explorer on the left, and dragging them into the session slots, the sound patch of the VST in that slot changes...
I'm guessing this is the MIDI file bringing over patch change data along with it.
Is there any way to filter this out or stop it from happening, as it is rather annoying.
