Multicore/multiprocessor support clarification

Post by tonfedd » Sun Aug 01, 2010 3:27 pm

My computers processor is an Intel Xeon E5530 @ 2.40 GHZ (2 processors). There is 10.gb of Ram and I have Windows 7 (64 bit). Should switching on the multicore/multiprocessor support in preferences improve performance? When I do it at the moment the CPU load meter (when Live is open but not running and has nothing loaded) suddenly leaps from 2% and starts jumping around at anything between 19% - 51%.

Without the multicore/multiprocessor option clicked my setup is having trouble coping with some of the songs in the Ableton and Minus present live pack and I was hoping I might be able to improve performance with this option. However with the option clicked it just falls over totally.

As you can probably tell from the above when it comes to technical side of the computer I am pretty lost - any thoughts or guidance gratefully received.

Thanks

Live can distribute the CPU load of individual tracks to the different Cores/CPU´s when
multicore/multiprocessor support is enabled - so yes, it will improve performance.
Generally, it´s highly recommended to use ASIO driver and to run Live as admin on Win7/Vista.

Best,
Christian

Running it as administrator made a big difference. Thanks for your very quick response. I would never have worked that one out for myself
