Hi,

I'm considering buying Audiorealism Bassline but i found out about TeeBee in the
Retro Synths package from Puremagnetic.

Does anybody know if TeeBee is comparable to Bassline?
I'm especially interested if you can create the classic distorted 303 sound
like in Josh Wink's "Higher State of Consciousness". (In Audiorealism Bassline the Drive-knob
is crucial for this.)

One is a set of samples, the other is an actual emulation with various filter, tuning and distortion settings. ABL2 is a really good emulator.

If I recall correctly, Josh Wink used the MC-202 to create the acid sounds in that track.

I wouldn't be interested in a teebee unless it was dirt cheap.
my preferred alternatives would be (in no particular order)... x0xb0x - future retro revolution - acidlab bassline2 - future retro 777

yep, Phoscyon is the bee's knees. team it up with Thesys and you'll be in acid heaven.

As much as I respect Puremagnetik, the TeeBee isn't that usable for a 303 emulator.

+1 to Phoscyon. That thing rocks and has a few extra tricks. Amazing distortion too.

Soniccouture's DevilFish is far and away the best 303 emulation. Sounds incredible, and it comes for free with purchase of any Soniccouture product (including their Kiminstrument for $39 which sounds amazing as well).

oh my, I misread the OP... thought 'retro synths' was a hardware blog or something...


I'm not so keen on 303 sample-libraries, but I just don't have the technique down. In the past I've heard some amazing/mental acid lines knocked out by renoise using samples. I never gave samples much effort as I just use the hardware

Just curious here, why do you need Thesys? The sequencer in Phosycon seems pretty useable.

well you don't need Thesys, it's just a phenomenal step sequencer that opens up a lot more creative opportunities than the built in one.
i really recommend you give it a try if you haven't already

I tried it and wasn't all that impressed with the bang-for-buck. I couldn't stomach paying 100euro for it.

someday, over the rainbow... a used license maybe.

Actually that's true, Sonic couture do have a good sampled 303. Still not the same as a good emulation though. I'd rather just flick a switch to change the saw to a square rather than load a whole different patch, ya know? I admit that I do also like the 303 sample sources in Trilian.

i have to agree it isn't cheap, but i've got a lot of mileage out of it and i find it quite inspiring.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, to much for me though. I paid less than that for Reaktor!
